![]() Our corporate logo, shown above, is a stylized version of Madame Marie Curie's Nobel Prize winning work, proving that radioactive emissions carry positive, negative and neutral charges. Mme. Curie placed a piece of pitchblende (Radium) in a hole in a block of lead and allowed its radiation to emanate toward a photographic plate in a magnetic field. In such an environment, positively charged emissions will be deflected to the right, negatively charged emissions will be deflected to the left, and neutrally charged emissions will be unaffected. By interposing a photographic plate, three areas of darkening were observed. Through these observations, Mme Curie realized that radioactivity (her term) had at least three components which she labeled after the first three letters of the Greek alphabet; alpha (+) particles, beta (-) particles and gamma (neutral) emissions. |
