Courses for Physicians:
80 Hour Licensing Course Associates
in Medical Physics, LLC is accredited by the Accreditation Council for
Continuing Medical Education to sponsor continuing medical education for
physicians.
- Purpose:
A course is offered due to changes in the federal regulation that
became effective on October 24, 2002 and as revised in Federal Register
notice (March 30, 2005, page16364, Federal Register / Vol. 70, No. 60
/ Wednesday, March 30, 2005 / Rules and Regulations; and 10 FR 16361,
March. 30, 2005; 71 FR 1926, January. 12, 2006). It is designed with
cardiologists in mind and is intended to satisfy the didactic training
requirements needed for a physician to be named as an authorized user
and/or RSO on a radioactive materials human medical use license in any
one of 17 NRC regulated states for authorizations allowed under 10CFR
35.290. At the time of this writing on December 2008 these states consisted of Alaska, Connecticut, Delaware, (District of Columbia is regulated by the NRC too), Hawaii, Idaho, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, South Dakota, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia and Wyoming. Michigan, New Jersey and Virginia have filed letters of intent to become Agreement States. This course has been accepted in Agreement States over the years as the Agreement States adopted the NRC regulations. All Agreement States were to adopt these training requirements by April 2008. Your states should be checked for current requirements.
- This course is also acceptable for the didactic portion of training
needed for physicians taking the Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology
(CBNC) examination, if it is approved for this purpose by your preceptor.

- Activity:
The 80 hour course is offered as an eight day course at 10 class hours
per day. Attestation of this course as satisfactory didactic training
must be granted to you by your preceptor. Please call the registrar
for further details of the training requirements.
- Tuition
The 80 hour course is $3,500.00. Tuition covers all textbooks, course
materials and lab fees. Checks, MasterCard and VISA credit cards are
accepted.
- Scope
To be licensed by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission individuals
are required, in part, to document successful completion of didactic
training in basic radioisotope handling techniques. Individuals who
wish to become licensed users of radionuclides must also demonstrate
clinical experience that is not provided here.
- CME Credit
Associates in Medical Physics, LLC designates these educational activities
for a maximum of, or for up to, 80 hours of AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM.
Each physician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually
spent in the educational activity.
